AWARNESS PROGRAMME AT OLD AGE HOMES UNDER GUWAHATI CITY
On Thursday, 18th June 2026, under the leadership of the Chairperson of the Commission, Mr. Phanindra Kumar Buzar Baruah, and staff member Abhijit Baishya, visits were made to the old-age homes Mother Old Days Home at Hatigaon and Gana Sarathi Old Age Home at Bamunimaidam in Guwahati. During the visits, the team interacted with the residents, inquired about their well-being, and conducted awareness activities regarding the functions and responsibilities of the Commission.
Particular attention was given to residents who had been neglected by their children despite the latter being employed in government service under the Government of Assam. Discussions were held with these residents, and guidance and support were provided.
The Commission observed that most of the residents were happy and that the management and staff of both homes were working with great sincerity and dedication. However, it was also noted that both institutions still require significant improvements in terms of infrastructure and facilities. Accordingly, the Commission offered several suggestions and recommendations based on its observations.
